When removing a prosthesis from the hip or knee area, surgeons often find that the stem is easy to remove, whereas the cement remains in the bone either as a whole tube or in parts. The Metal Cemover® Removal System allows precise removal of the remaining cement. The rod is constructed of metal metamers, which are connected via a metal adapter with internal threading.
The Metal Cemover® is inserted into fresh cement, which is applied following prosthesis removal and cleaning of the cavity. After polymerisation has finished, the “secondary cement” adheres to both the old cement and the removal rod. Special instruments are then used to remove one metamer at a time along with a defined quantity of cement, starting from the proximal part of the bone. A metal threaded cap at the end of the rod helps make the final metamer easy to identify.
The metal rod comes in 3 lengths (120 mm, 150 mm and 180 mm); users can select the correct length based on the length of the removed prosthesis stem.
